Dr. Harooni is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist. The cornea is the clear tissue at the front of the eye that covers the iris and the pupil, and helps focus light rays entering the eye. The cornea protects the eye from infection and trauma, and bends or refracts light rays so we can focus on objects. Corneal specialists treat simple and advanced problems of the cornea.
- Corneal abrasions (scratches)
- Corneal ulcers (infected deep pits)
- Keratoconus (stretched shape)
- Corneal dystrophies (hereditary problems of the cornea cells)
- Corneal edema (swelling)
There are a number of medical and surgical treatments available to cornea patients, including a variety of corneal transplantation, resurfacing and reshaping techniques.
